Newcastle five-piece Simon Taylor & the Sundowners are becoming masters of the contemporary jazz-infused pop song. With influences ranging from Serge Gainsbourg to Chic, the group’s output is never dull and continually strives to try something new and unique within its traditional genre. The band are now launching their latest single Hot Love at the Bridge Hotel on Friday 6th February, with some special surprises in store.

Hot Love, featuring regular collaborator Ivel Goverda, is sunnier than any single deserves to be at this time of year. Capable of melting any amounts of snow, it’s a short little ditty that shimmies along with Latin-infused charm and a simple yet completely infectious guitar hook and sing-along chorus. Building up to feature rolling hand drums and smatterings of clashing cymbals. Certainly more upbeat than the sultry, jazz-inflected Crazy, Hot Love adds another string to Simon Taylor & the Sundowner’s bow.

On the night, the band will be joined by singer-songwriter Lesley Roley and Simon will also be performing a special acoustic set. What’s not to love?
