Candle & Bell have been producing their own short films nights at the Tyneside Cinema for a long while now, but this June’s edition is set to be even more special as they welcome Third Films’ Samm Haillay to the venue. The Newcastle based company have a strong reputation for producing short films, many of which have helped them to create a name for themselves as one of the region’s best film producers and distributors.

In this special edition of Short Film Night, Samm will be presenting five of his favourite short films. Field is a dark tale of being a teenager in a rural location, focusing heavily on the boredom and isolation that living in the provinces can foster in adolescents. Love Me Or Leave Me Alone tells the tale of a boy who realises he’s at fault after a fight with his girlfriend, and his struggle to make amends by the day’s end. Meanwhile, another dilemma arises in Jade, as a young girl attempts to find the right path in life, but realises she may not be in control of her own decisions. More adolescent drama comes in the form of Compulsion, in which a teenager’s anxieties come to the fore after learning of their girlfriend’s infidelity. Finally, Twelfth Man examines the intense atmosphere during the Newcastle-Sunderland derby day.

With a wide range of themes and styles, Samm’s picks for the night have something for all filmgoers’ tastes.

Short Film Night takes place at the Tyneside Cinema on Tuesday 2nd June.
