Not a new gallery, but the reinvigoration of a much-loved one, Shieldfield Art Works (formerly known as The Holy Biscuit) will celebrate the people of the area with its debut exhibition which runs until Saturday 6th July.

The gallery remains committed to exploring art’s relationship to community activism and will continue to present work which seeks truth, challenges injustice and operates for a common good. The independent arts organisation will also strive to represent the people of Shieldfield, an area which has seen rapid expansion over recent years, with a boom in its population and all the challenges that go with it.

The debut eponymous multi-discipline exhibition will showcase work by local artists who embody the gallery’s values. Photojournalist Phyllis Christopher will display some of her work, which often focuses on the documentation of LGBT visibility; Dwellbeing present their 3D map which tracks the money used to fuel the dramatic urban development in Shieldfield; Dr Mikey Tomkins joins forces with local residents to display his map which imagines a greener Shieldfield; and films produced by local residents as part of the North EastEnders project, plus a new Shieldfield Art Works publication will be launched.

A special relaunch event on Friday 7th June will officially welcome the venue to the Ouseburn family, with presentations on current and future work, a feast of Syrian cuisine and live DJ.
