After a brief live hiatus to focus on other commitments and to solidify plans for their forthcoming third EP, Post-Hardcore maestros Shades return to the Head of Steam on Sunday 13th December, with an array of notable special guests and new songs in tow

2015 has been somewhat of a ‘no room to breathe’ year for the five piece, with the release of their sophomore EP ‘Lose Your Chains’ (an abrasive assemblage of thrashing guitars, gritty bass riffs and angst-ridden colloquy) solidifying their position as one of the most thought-provoking and fury-inducing acts to emerge from the region. Off the back of the EP release, an influx of sought-after support slots and prestigious festival bookings arrived, with the band supporting the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses and Gnarwolves, as well as performing at NARC. Fest and Stockton Calling, all in the space of a couple of months.

Now, after a short break, Shades are back in the swing of things, and intend to bring just as much commotion to the Head of Steam at their comeback show as we’ve seen them bring many times before.

Expect to hear the band delve into their own back catalogue, performing tracks from both prior releases as well as a bunch of new, more leftfield and progressive numbers (the majority of which have only been performed a handful of times in the past). Shades are in excellent company on the night, in the form of riff-laden art-rockers Drifts, melodic alt-songsters Antlez, math-rock newbies Mongeese, and a secret performance from another bunch of noisy local heavyweights.

In the words of guitarist Reece Spencer, the band are going to do exactly what is expected of them at this show, so if you’ve seen Shades before, you have been warned. Chaos will ensue.

Shades play Head Of Steam, Newcastle on Sunday 13th December.
