One of the region’s most notable comedy names, Seymour Mace has mined a unique vein of down-beat surrealism, askew observation and a love for old school game show formats, as filtered through a distinctly DIY aesthetic. He shares with Vic & Bob the sense of a light entertainer emerging blinking into the light having been trapped in solitary confinement for the last few decades, having gone slowly but surely and incurably insane in the interim.
Having been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for last year’s show Niche As Fuck and also attracting critical acclaim from the likes of Chortle, Gigglebeats and The List for his performances at the Fringe this year, he’s now bringing his latest show, Shit Title, to The Stand in Newcastle on Sunday 16th October as part of the Newcastle Alternative season.
Blending traditional stand-up – well, as traditional as Seymour Mace gets anyway – with a quiz show format, Shit Title promises low key stunts, bizarre characters, Generation-Game-gone-horribly-right audience interaction and some gleefully cheap props as Mace blends high-concept whimsy with introspection and depression. It might sound like a strange collision of ingredients (and frankly, you’d be right), but in Mace’s hands it’s the making of another brilliant show.
