Reliably informed

A couple of heavyweights of the folk scene will be plying their wares at ARC in Stockton on Monday 26th October, offering sublime music which references both the traditional and contemporary. Devon’s own Seth Lakeman is a multi-instrumentalist of much renown, a virtuoso fiddle and tenor guitar player, it’s his songwriting knack that has earned him the most praise. Nominated for a Mercury Music Prize for his debut album Kitty in 2005, his ability to straddle traditional styles with a modern edge, his superb voice and beguiling manner, is a treat indeed. Don’t take our word for it, Lakeman has been the recipient of countless prestigious awards, from Singer and Album of the Year in 2007 (for Freedom Fields) and Best Album and Best Group for his work with folk supergroup The Full English in 2014 at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Lakeman’s folky prowess will be complemented by touring partner Josh Rouse, whose rootsy pop vibe has seen him work with such legends as Mark Eitzel and Kurt Wagner. The prolific American musician’s understated vocals and the variety of his work, which spans delicate folky sounds to modest and intelligent pop gems, ensures him a loyal following.

It’s rare to find two such astonishing and equally matched talents sharing a stage. Not too shabby for a Monday.
