It’s not often we get to talk about Seaham, despite the fact that the coastal town is constantly producing a stream of brilliant singer-songwriters. Often overlooked, the town is bringing four of its talented musicians together to perform at a special pre-Christmas gig at the Town Hall on Tuesday 23rd December.

The four artists brought together have all had fantastic years. Marc Oliver released his debut EP Our Fleeting Time, while This Little Bird recently supported American alt-folk giant Laura Veirs when she played at Gateshead’s Caedmon Hall in October. Ani Sandwith will be bringing tunes from her latest EP Thing We Have To Do and Michael Blackwell recently brought out his debut LP Brave New Soul, which was recorded in London and produced by Paul Frost.

Marc Oliver said of Seaham’s musical reputation: “Seaham is rife with creative people doing a lot of really great things. This night is set up to showcase a small selection of the huge talent that exists within the town and deliver it right to peoples doorsteps. It’s an opportunity for people to enjoy the festive period in a unique way by attending the kind of event that doesn’t happen often in Seaham.”

Certainly Seaham is a rising force in producing new talent and the pre-Christmas gig is a perfect way to sample some of the work by the town’s most promising musicians.

The Seaham Songwriters’ Gig takes place at the Town Hall in Seaham on Tuesday 23rd December.
