Love the smell of napalm in the morning? Then, this month, Gateshead’s Team Valley is the place for you.

Straight off the back of their phenomenally successful (and rather awesome) screening of The Shining at Wallsend MEM and Beetlejuice at a haunted theatre, Screenage Kicks have settled for the next best thing to 1969 Saigon for their take on Apocalypse Now. Replacing heavy firearms with retro gaming, the immersive cinema crew will demand your armed assistance at Battlezone Laser on Friday 15th May (if you can terminate the opposition to acquire a ticket, that is).

Coppola’s cinematic masterpiece is an explosive tour-de-force. In the year 1969, the legendary Colonel Kurtz has gone rogue, defected deep into the heart of the jungle. The fully immersive experience invites the newly assembled Team Valley Airborne Corps to buckle up, track the Colonel down by whatever means necessary and terminate his command.

Previous events have combined popcorn, live music, themed food and fancy dress to delirious effect; however there hasn’t been anything quite like this. The hallucinatory Vietnam War offers an artillery-load of audacious possibilities. So climb aboard the nearest chopper and set your sights for deepest, darkest Saigon. Surf’s up, Charlie.
