Screen Demons, the North East’s six-week long celebration of the many flavours of classic and contemporary horror, is halfway through its second annual run – and there’s a couple of very exciting events still to come. And since Screen Demons is an offshoot of Screenage Kicks, the North East’s finest (only?) purveyors of fully interactive cinema, both are pretty special.

First up, on Sunday 11th June, the Cluny will for one night only be transformed into a sleazy exploitation cinema fleapit for Return To 42nd Street (the NYC hub for such places). Hosted in conjunction with Heaton Horror Museum, we’re promised a secret double bill of “all-out Grindhouse thrills”, -presented by HHM’s Steve Jones. Great food and drink are promised and – even better – the event is free, although you do have book via the Facebook event page.

Then to round two of the season, there’s a rare and unmissable screening of Mario Bava’s Black Sunday at Newcastle Castle on Sunday 25th June. Arguably Bava’s masterpiece, this gothic horror tour-de-force will be getting the full Screenage Kicks treatment in what should be a fittingly bloodthirsty climax to the Screen Demons run.
