Great North Museum: Hancock are offering the opportunity to enjoy a truly alternative night out, and indulge your inner geek into the bargain. Their free Science Uncovered event, taking place on Friday 30th September, will see the museum open their doors after hours for an informal expo, where pioneers from the region’s top universities will present their latest discoveries. The programme will feature a science-themed bar, experiments, music, tours and ten-minute ‘lightening’ talks to stimulate enquiring minds, there’ll also be Science Stations dotted around the museum where curious punters can delve deeper into the evening’s theme of ‘water’ and a special interactive Turing Machine AV performance into the bargain.

There’s also an opportunity to tour Newcastle University’s BioImaging unit, pick a boffin’s brains about the mysteries of the natural world, and grill Great North Museum: Hancock’s resident experts on the museum’s own biology, geology and archaeology collections.

The initiative has taken the capital by storm in recent years, and the event runs as part of European Researchers’ Night, a continent-wide initiative which takes scientific research and showcases it in a fun social setting. Time to get your geek on!
