Did somebody say math rock? Well… kind of. As anyone who’s been keeping a steady eye on Schultz’s career so far you’ll no doubt have noticed that despite having a foundation of Foals-like guitar noodling, there’s also a lot more to the band that have kept people coming back for more. After releasing their single Vivid and more recently Vicious Van Gogo, the group have been going from strength to strength by combining their mathy base with post-hardcore elements and frontman Brad Ringrose’s gothic baritone vocals. Live, they can get a little bit, shall we say, energetic. Needless to say that if you haven’t caught the group yet, now’s your chance to experience their often ferocious and exhilarating set before they pop off to the studio to record new material.

Joining them at the Head of Steam are Hartlepudlian at-poppers Antlez, who recently played the Little Buildings at Evolution Emerging. The group specialise in twiddly guitar tunes that are often sunny, often complex, but never dull. Kicking off the night will be Newcastle lads Mongeese, who must be one of the most prolific live bands around right now, having played several shows at the Head of Steam alone in the past few weeks. With a combination of dynamic songwriting and rhythmic complexity, the band are fast becoming ones to watch.

Schultz, Antlez and Mongeese play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Saturday 6th June.
