Reliably informed

Local promoters Confusion is Next have form for bringing high-octane, low-fidelity chaos to Little Buildings, and have assembled another breakneck bill for this show on Friday 1st June.

Topping the pile are Liverpool’s Salt The Snail, whose return to Newcastle comes hot on the heels of a pair of much-vaunted singles in Coffee and Spanish Announce Table. Having doused themselves in beverage and donned wrestling masks in their respective videos, it’s fair to say the trio’s collision of raw punk power and scuzzy grunge filth is scarcely delivered with a straight face, and it’s this penchant for fun which has quickly established them among the UK underground’s liveliest live acts. In their own words they deliver “a salty opera for the intellectually challenged,” and if this is the case then I’m all for falling within that bracket.

Before that, though, there’ll also be a rip-roaring supporting cast, headed by the strictly not-to-be-Googled Hot Sex For Boys. Front-loaded with sharp, groove-laden riffs, their sleazy garage-tinged hardcore will be preceded by fellow locals Tankengine, a group featuring ex-members of yourcodenameis:milo, Mammal Club and Tomahawks For Targets who’ll get the sweat flowing with their gnarly, shape-shifting noise rock. Loud music and cheap booze – what better way to break in the month?
