Attempting to gain a deeper understanding of why we interfere with our own sanity, comedian, actor and writer Ruby Wax’s observations are full of insight, wit and (no doubt) a few choice swears in her latest stage show, Frazzled! A Guide To Mindfulness, which comes to Durham’s Gala Theatre on Monday 20th February.
Considered somewhat of an ‘it girl’ of mental health campaigning, the comedian has been frank about her own battles with depression and how to cope with it – leading to the release of her book Sane New World and subsequent tour in 2015. This follow-up show is described as an opportunity to engage in discussion, to explore further the benefits of the mindfulness practice and look into a scientific solution to modern problems.
Ruby Wax offers a comical yet insightful take on one of the biggest health issues facing us today. “We are not equipped for this century, it’s too hard, too fast, and too full of fear; we just don’t have the bandwidth.” She exclaims on her website. “Our brains can’t take so much information in a world where we’re bombarded by bad news and force-fed information. I can just about take in the weather then I’m exhausted.” You may not come away any saner, but you might just be able to cope with the 21st Century that little bit better.
