Photographer Syd Shelton will be visiting Side Gallery to present and discuss his Rock Against Racism work in a special talk on Saturday 11th November. With the exhibition of his work itself running at the Newcastle gallery from Saturday 21st October until Tuesday 17th November.

It’s a chance to meet the man who documented a moment in time when people decided to come together, speak up, love music and hate racism.

Syd Shelton’s photographs capture moments of real ferocity, the clash of cultural differences hammered out on Britain’s streets in the late 1970s and the subsequent collective response of musicians and activists who came together to fight fascism and racism through music. A selection of images taken from Shelton’s extensive documentation illustrate a moment in time when people decided to come together, speak up, love music and hate racism.

Syd Shelton is at Side Gallery, Newcastle on Saturday 11th November.
