For those not old enough to remember, Rob Newman, as part of The Mary Whitehouse Experience, was comedy royalty. Delivering his dry and often uncompromising satire from behind his delicious indie fringe, he melted the hearts of many a young lady. After the breakup of the ‘Experience’ in 1992, Newman, alongside his comedy partner David Baddiel, went supernova, making history as the first comedians to make the substantial leap from clubs to Wembley Arena.

Now this  award-winning elder statesman of alternative rock ‘n’ roll comedy makes a very welcome return to Newcastle with his latest show, Total Eclipse of Descartes, at The Stand on Sunday 15th September.

As with all of Rob’s work, it’s beautifully written, successfully lugging comedy into unchartered intellectual territory, dredging the innermost parts of his brain, combining stone cold fact with a bewildering line in comedic fantasy and attempting to piece together a philosophy for our troubled times by sifting through 3000 years of thought: from Pythagoras to Artificial Intelligence by way of Pavlov’s dogs, Jane Goodall’s chimpanzees and Frankie Howerd’s trousers.

Previous performances of this show have received across the board rave reviews and this intimate and exclusive appearance is not to be missed.
