Richard Hawley has a history of coining records after locations in his native Sheffield – and if his touring history is anything to go by, it seems he’s equally keen to explore what haunts the North East has to offer. With Sage Gateshead, Whitley Bay Playhouse, Newcastle’s O2 Academy and Hoults Yard struck from his list, Monday 14th October sees the slick Yorkshireman continue his jaunt across the region’s venues, this time with a visit to Northumbria Institute.

Ironically, this latest date comes off the back of an album, Further, that’s his first to bear no titular connection to his hometown. Nevertheless, the concise 11-track effort represents another sterling addition to one of British music’s most dependable catalogues; an esteemed canon that’s earned a pair of Mercury Prize nominations and encompassed everything from heart-rending late-night ruminations to weighty, sprawling psychedelia. Setting that trademark velvety croon and finesse of touch to his most concise and optimistic songcraft to date, the new record sees Hawley offset sublime balladeering (Alone, Emilina Says) with gruff, grungy surges (Off My Mind) and primetime Springsteen-isms (Galley Girl) – all of which are sure to excel within the confines of an ever-wondrous live show. Start your week the right way!
