Reliably informed

It’s no secret that often band members shift around and either go solo, start new projects or join other groups. It’s just something that bands have to deal with. It’s nice, though, when these shifts in line-up happen under happy and amicable circumstances. Rexine singer Rachel has been in a variety of bands, but it’s not often they all play on the same bill together. It’s about to happen at the Head of Steam though, as the band head up an intense night of jangle pop.

Rexine themselves produce catchy, sometimes noisy and often bittersweet jangle pop that will delight any fans of The Long Blondes (aka one of Shieffield’s most underrated bands of the past ten years). Producing weird and wonderful indie pop, they’re an amazing prospect for anyone looking for a semi-nostalgic set of guitar licks and rips. Rachel’s former band Model Village join them on the bill, combining their own brand of jangly guitars with a twinge off-kilter Americana that’s not too distant from the best work of The Shins. Rounding off the bill are Rachel’s other former band, Newcastle’s own The Artisans, whose latest single However Much I Love You, I Love Lloyd Honeyghan More is a pure blast of sunshine that’s reminiscent of the most poppy moments of Belle & Sebastian’s work.

If you’re a fan of sunshine-filled indie and, well, of Rachel, then this is an amazing night of entertainment.

Rexine, Model Village and The Artisans play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Thursday 28th May.
