A wonderfully inventive blend of comedy, art and theatre is making its way to Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle on Wednesday 14th September, as we’re given the chance to meet Sue Burbia and her life in domesticity; following her through a dream-like multimedia experience.
Brought to life by the immensely original and utterly talented Liberty Hodes, it’s a show filled with quirky concepts, though there’s passion and intelligence behind the kitsch, DIY props. Sure Burbia’s domestic life is what we’re allowed to sneak a look into though, with a highly visual and episodic work on show. Hodes is a North East native, but has just returned home after a stint in London, and it’ll be fascinating to see what effect this has had on the performance artist’s work. The colourful, vibrant surface may have a cartoony element, but it still manages to shine a light on bigger concepts like suburbia and what it means to be a woman. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to get acquainted with Sue Burbia.
