After rescheduling dates in December 2016, Illinois emo stalwarts Real Friends play their much-anticipated gig at Riverside, Newcastle on Sunday 9th April.

Formed in 2010, the quintet quickly rose up through the ranks, playing the Vans Warped Tour in the US and supporting the likes of big-hitters The Wonder Years. Described as ‘American Football if they went totally pop-punk’, Real Friends were raised on a diet of Jimmy Eat World, Saves the Day and The Promise Ring, though rather than just aping their heroes they’ve comfortably forged their own path.

Their second album, The Home Inside My Head, released in May 2016, further cemented Real Friends’ status in the big leagues. A triumphant, emotionally-charged pop-punk record, The Home Inside My Head features lyrics that tackle serious subjects such as mental health issues, though despite the serious subject matter, Real Friends create a life-affirming, punch your fist in the air sound with urgent riffs, infectious hooks and huge soaring choruses. Expect sing-alongs aplenty.
