If you’re looking to set up a new comedy night in the region then you’re facing some stiff competition. Not that this put off brothers Gavin and Kai Humphries at all when they created Punch-Drunk Comedy, a stand-up night aimed at breathing some new life into their local community. More than being just a platform for some rising talent, though, the brothers are setting their sights on bringing some of the world’s best comedians to the Northumberland town.

Future line-ups for the event will already feature Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Phil Nichol, local legend Gavin Webster and creator of Hebburn Jason Cook. Gavin explained: “With Punch-Drunk we are creating a movement towards social reconnection. Yes, the night will be centered around laughter, but beyond that it’s fast becoming a landmark social event in the monthly calendar.”

As part of the community-based drive, the comedy night have also teamed up with local charity Princess Ellie’s Trust; Punch-Drunk donate 30 tickets from each show to the charity, from which the charity themselves keep 100% of the takings.

Punch-Drunk 2, which takes place on Tuesday 17th February, features Dan Nightingale, Andy Fury and Daliso Chaponda, but the lads also have a few cheeky surprises up their sleeve… You’ll just have to pop along to find out.

Punch-Drunk 2 will take place at the Newsham Side-Club, Blyth on Tuesday 17th February.
