A comedy night headlined by some of the biggest names on the regional – and sometimes national – circuit might not seem the likeliest of places to host a food bank but Punch Drunk Comedy have officially turned their nights in south east Northumberland into a place both to have a good old chuckle and help those in need. Punch Drunk’s aim has always been to increase pride and awareness of what’s going on in their town and bolster community spirit but now the team behind the night are going that one step further.

But wait, you might be saying, what does this mean for the acts? Will there still be the same high-level quality at the events as there was before? The answer can be found simply by pointing in the direction of this month’s headliner, the indomitable Nick Helm, best known for his roles in Uncle and the altogether surreal Heavy Entertainment. He’s coming to the north to deliver some home truths about life, love and being a living legend with an amazing bod (look at the photos, who could disagree?) He’ll be joined by David Trent and JoJo Smith with compere Micky Hutton, which should be the perfect mixture for a night of hilarity and charity.

Punch Drunk Comedy comes to Bylth’s Newsham Working Men’s Social Club on Monday 21st September, Bedlington’s Netherton Club on Tuesday 22nd September and the Whitehouse Unique Social Club in Ashington on Wednesday 23rd September.
