Launched back in July last year, alternative Cabaret night PUG has gone from strength to strength in the face of many challenges. With more challenges ahead, the team of Hannah Walker and Rosa Postlethwaite are reaching out for help. The duo, together with Jamie Cook have formed a night that brings unique art, performance, comedy, music and more together on one night of mesmerising entertainment.

It all started when they met a fisherman in Leazes Park, and asked him what he though a radical new performance club night in Newcastle should be, and his reply of “Cheap. Good Transport Links. Fun.” have became the cornerstones of what makes PUG.

Their pay what you feel ethos has fitted perfectly with their home for artwork that is marginalised in the North East, reaching out across disciplines, and finding more and more gems to unearth and give a platform to. They now need to raise money to keep this going, and aim to raise £800 through a new Kickstarter campaign which will help them host four more PUG shows.

£15 provides artists with backstage snacks and beverages, £50 means that they can print gorgeous posters and flyers, £100 will go to an artist’s travel bursary and £200 means that a PUG night can be captured in film.

The money will do so much to help this night, and there are perks and rewards alongside a good old hearty thanks, though with more than half the campaign gone, they still need to raise £300.

With the campaign closing on Sunday 7th May, now is the time to get involved, to keep this beautifully important part of the North East cultural scene thriving.

You can help with the Kickstarter campaign here, or go see PUG at St Mary’s Heritage Centre on Friday 28th April.
