It’s been just over a year since the Scottish synth pop trio captured everyone’s attention with their performance of Messiah at the 2014 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony. The athletics event held in their hometown Glasgow gave Prides their big break and they’ve been working hard to keep up the momentum ever since.

Having put the finishing touches on debut album The Way Back Up, they’re now heading out on tour, bringing their show to Newcastle’s Riverside on Thursday 19th November.

Their catchy tracks are propelled up to anthem status with plenty of repetitive synth bothering melodies and energetic atmospherics. Take the aforementioned Messiah as a case in point: easily one of the catchiest tunes of last year, it’s a real gem of a pop song, full of romanticised lyrics and a truly chant-worthy chorus. However it’s not only up-tempo treats with Prides, as they’ve also mastered the beautiful piano ballad in The Kite String And The Anchor Rope, proving that the band can offer so much more than in-your-face synth pop anthems.

Front man Stewart Brock has remarked that the group prides (ahem) themselves on winning a crowd over. Let’s see if they can live up to that promise when they land in Newcastle.

Prides play at Riverside on Thursday 19th November.
