Alongside creating bold new work, Northern Stage has a reputation for reviving classic works in fresh adaptations – and this is an adaptation like no other. Drawing on over 200 years of romantic creative history, writer Isobel McArthur’s unique take on Jane Austen’s most loved novel Pride And Prejudice heads to Northern Stage from Wednesday 2nd-Saturday 12th October.

Each playing multiple characters, the exceptional original cast – including Isobel McArthur and newcomer Felixe Forde – fight over men, money and microphones in this rip-roaring and irreverent adaptation of Jane Austen’s unrivalled literary classic.

Presented in close collaboration with partners of the original production, Tron Theatre and Blood of the Young and directed by Paul Brotherston, Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) focuses on the lives of the servants, who of course have always been running the show – after all ‘You can’t have a whirlwind romance without clean bedding’. In this glorious production, the overlooked and the undervalued – those who empty the chamber pots, sweep ash from the grate and make sure those above stairs find their happy ending – finally find their voice.

Let the ruthless matchmaking begin.

Pride And Prejudice* (*Sort Of) is at Northern Stage, Newcastle from Wednesday 2nd-Saturday 12th October
