Fancy seeing a host of new productions written by the region’s best emerging playwrights? You’ve come to the right place. Playing Up will be showcasing eight new works, presented in short bursts for an evening of script-in-hand performances by some of the North East’s rising actors on Thursday 26th February.

What can we expect from this octet of work? Well, the unexpected of course. Revolutionary librarians, flying old men, isolated islanders, and an assortment of highly, shall we say, colourful characters. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing the train-stealing railway enthusiasts… Also on display will be some rather unusual binoculars, dying birds and John Humphrys will need a grenade in his mouth (their ideas, not mine).

Afterwards, the audience is being given the opportunity to air their opinions to the staff and some of the writers, so you can help shape the direction of the finished plays. So, if you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a theatre buff, it would be a good time to put your experience into practice. Who knows? You might be helping to shape the destiny of a future theatre legend.

Playing Up is at Northern Stage, Newcastle on Thursday 26th February.
