Reliably informed

Plastic Mermaids threatened a killer full-length record for a long time and 2019 was the year they delivered. After stellar reviews across the music press (including in this very magazine), have you listened to Suddenly Everyone Explodes yet? If not, you’re getting a big red X in your exercise book and the instruction to go and correct your error.

As they’re hitting up the North East with two shows this month, you’ve got enough time to familiarise yourself with all the beauty contained therein. Teesside folks won’t be sleeping because, despite the geographical distance from their home on the Isle of Wight, Plastic Mermaids have played enough shows there to become firm favourites. They’ll be drowning The Georgian Theatre in Stockton with waves of psych loveliness on Wednesday 18th September, while Geordies can get their fix by getting down to Think Tank? on Tuesday 24th September.

If you’re not convinced yet, I’m going to lay it on the line and say that Plastic Mermaids are one of the finest bands in the UK right now. If you like synths, guitars, weird analogue bleepy things, megaphones, joy, wonder, happiness, heartbreak, the kitchen sink, nu-rave, Flaming Lips before the cocaine ruined everything, and fucking amazing aural experiences – go and see them.
