Performing at Sage Gateshead probably wasn’t at the forefront Pigs x7’s minds while they were coining their name, penning their first hulking riffs and piecing together lengthy behemoths such as Psychopomp and Icon. Seven years later, however, that’s precisely where the band have chosen to round out their most extensive UK tour to date, with a gig at the venue on Friday 19th April, which has already seen cities like London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Leeds sell out way in advance.

The jaunt follows a stunning 2018 in which the quintet shot to national prominence with King of Cowards; a rip-roaring second album whose momentum they’re clearly keen to capitalise on with hints of further fresh music in the pipeline. It’ll probably be a tad early for live debuts, yet anyone who’s witnessed them shake The Cluny and the Star & Shadow Cinema in recent years will surely be down for another round!

If experiencing their nuclear din in arguably the North East’s best sounding room isn’t incentive enough, there’s the added fillip of excellent noisemakers Lower Slaughter in support. Signed to Pigs x7 vocalist Matt Baty’s thriving Box Records, the Brighton/Glasgow-based quartet arrive on the back of their own sophomore album Some Things Take Work, a late-March release which is already drawing glowing press. Get down early – you’ll not be disappointed!
