Phoenix Dance Theatre are this week offering the chance to see not one but two new productions by one of the most influential figures in world dance, Christopher Bruce. Alongside a new restaging of his energetic study of life in the 1940s, Shift, Bruce will also be premiering a brand new work created especially for the PDT, Shadows. This will be the first time that the PDT have performed any of Bruce’s work, but their flair for dynamic and highly enjoyable performances should mean that they carry off the feat beautifully.

The production will also contain two further world premieres (because PDT haven’t spoilt us enough with this one already…) Phoenix’s own artistic director Sharon Watson presents the follow-up to 2011’s Melt and 2013’s Repetition of Change with a new piece that continues to explore the notion and nature of tears through an athletic choreographic style. Meanwhile, New Adventures Choreographer Award winner Caroline Finn is presenting a darkly comic expression of life and humanity in her distinctively playful and quirky choreographic style.

Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Mixed Programme will come to Northern Stage, Newcastle on Thursday 28th May.
