Reliably informed

From young firebrand to respected uncle of alternative hip-hop, Pharaohe Monch has been a major force in hip-hop for over three decades, admired for his dizzying linguistic mastery and complex flow: in a recording career stretching back to 1991, he’s been a byword for integrity and imagination.

From his work as one half of Organized Konfuzion in the nineties, to his more recent conceptual releases like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Monch has continued to build a formidable reputation and push himself artistically whilst remaining true to his old-school roots. Then there’s the matter of that infamous, incredible debut solo album Infernal Affairs, an instant classic upon its release at the turn of the millennium and one that gave Monch a break-out hit in the form of Simon Says.

For anyone who caught his packed-out show at The Cluny last year, you’ll already know that Monch remains a formidable live performer, drawing from across his catalogue to deliver a pumped-up and visceral affair that still reflects the intelligence and increasing ambition of his more recent work. It’s no surprise then that for his return visit to Newcastle on Thursday 20th July, he’s been upgraded to the larger Riverside venue to try and pack in the hordes of long-time followers and new fans keen to see a genuine hip-hop legend in the flesh. Don’t miss out.

Pharaohe Monch plays Riverside, Newcastle on Thursday 20th July.
