Reliably informed

Charismatic, enigmatic and occasionally shambolic, Middlesbrough’s legendary Pellethead are bringing their head-scratching blend of punk, new wave and obscure pop-culture references to Newcastle’s Head of Steam on Saturday 5th March.

In a time when much store is set on being authentic and ‘keeping it real’, Pellethead’s recipe for success seems to have been to just please themselves. Consequently, they’ve been together for nearly 25 years and to say they’ve become a North East institution underplays the cult following they’ve gained around the world, and the experiences that many a more ‘famous’ band would sell their souls for. Admitting that their only aim was to play music they liked and get asked to play gigs, their down to earth approach is probably one of the reasons for their longevity, so take the opportunity to pay homage to one of the most unique, likeable and honest bands on the Teesside music scene.

Support comes from Newcastle’s understated but emotional slow-core purveyors Hold Music and atmospheric post-rock pop from ex-Tusk folks Shamu. The recommended entry fee is £5 or, alternatively, pay what you can afford. They’re not in it for the money, after all.
