Pauline Burbidge brings her new exhibition Quiltscapes & Quiltline to The Bowes Museum on Saturday 28th November, with the exhibition running through until Sunday 10th April. The exhibition features a collection of new work by this acclaimed textile artist.

Burbidge has a passion for cloth, stitching and making, often finding inspiration in nature and landscapes, this particular collection draws a lot from her home in the rural Scottish Borders, where she works and creates. While a lot of her influences may have come and gone, it’s this love of the natural world and her passion for quilt making that is perfectly on show in this collection.

A creative life which saw Burbidge studying fashion and textiles at St Martins Art College in London, followed by 40 years of professional quilt making, this latest show sees the work divided into two types, for this selling exhibition: stunning textile landscapes, showing wall quilts (Quiltscapes) alongside original, functional and usable quilts (Quiltline). She’s also created seven new quilts just for this show.

Exploring new techniques alongside her wealth of experience, this is sure to be a fascinating exhibition, where you could see a beautiful landscape, perfect to hang on any wall, alongside something more practical which could even be put through the washing machine. With someone who is a master of their craft, showcasing a wealth of techniques, this will be an enthralling exhibition. Extra events such as gallery talks are spread throughout the exhibition, and a quilting talk with Burbidge herself on Sunday 6th March will leave you never seeing quilts in the same way again.

You can see Pauline Burbidge’s Quiltscapes & Quiltline at The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, County Durham from Saturday 28th November until Sunday 10th April
