There’s no shortage of talented singer-songwriters in the region at the minute; Marc Oliver and John Edgell are two of our most long-standing and respected musicians in the genre and are now hosting a gig with two fellow local songwriters at The Cluny. Whitburn-based Paul Liddell recently released his fourth studio album Andelain, which marked a small but significant change in direction for the artist,  to great critical success and has been on a UK tour promoting the album since. Seaham multi-instrumentalist Ani Sandwith joins him on the bill, bringing songs from her EP Involving Me Involving You and her husky vocals to the night. The pair are accompanied by solo sets from Oliver and Edgell themselves, playing songs from the past and present.

Aside from bringing together a variety of different singer-songwriters from across the region, the gig is also in aid of the Newcastle Foodbank. They’re looking for punters to bring along donations to the foodbank in exchange for a reduced entry fee of £3. Marc says: “We feel that it is particularly important, not only to collect provisions for this organisation but to also highlight that they exist for anyone needs them. People shouldn’t have to rely on food banks within our society, however given the current governments persistent attacks to vulnerable people, which further cements the imbalance within our society, we felt it was just to raise and donate.”

Paul Liddell, Ani Sandwith, Marc Oliver and John Edgell play at the Cluny 2, Newcastle on Thursday 13th August.
