When you think of a park, then the first thing you might imagine is an urban oasis, a place where you can go and relax and watch the world go by amongst nature, nestled within the hustle and bustle of the city. In the  Jasmin Vardimon Company’s latest production, the titular park plays that familiar role, as it becomes  refuge from ordinary life for the eight major characters. It’s also a place where they can fight, fall in love and learn to survive.

Amongst the urban environment, lovers wrestle in the historic fountain, a graffiti artist sprays a message of love on a wall and a busker finds his only appreciative audience. A flag waving bullying also shouts out his political beliefs to anyone who’ll listen (that’ll be no-one then). In the production, each of their stories intertwine and collide, crating a funny contemporary fairy tale that’s intelligent, funny and just a little bit vicious. With some bruising yet beautiful choreography and ferociously physical performances from the dancers, Park is set to be a thoroughly captivating contemporary dance drama.

Park comes to Dance City, Newcastle on Wednesday 25th March.
