Reliably informed

Bring on the celebratory fanfare because Beyond The Wall have reached their tenth gig! Okay, well, it’s technically been a lot more than that counting all the showcases, but we’ll overlook that one in favour of a massive party down the Head of Steam. Because really, that’s what we all want.

For their Big 1-0, Charlie and Ollie are getting Newcastle-based Para Alta to headline the gig. The band formerly known as Palace have been slowly building up a solid collection of atmospheric indie anthems and previewing them around the region, including a supporting slot with the ludicrously popular Dry The River late last year. With tunes imbued with complex rhythms and tempered with deceptively simple drum beats like a fine chocolate, the group are definitely ones to watch.

Joining them on the bill are Staffordshire band and Beyond the Wall favourites Parisian Youth Culture. With an immense amount of stage presence and some nifty, jangly indie guitar pop to back it up, they’ll be back again to beef up the party atmosphere. Hartlepudlians Plaza are also on the bill; after releasing a new EP last month, the indie four-piece are riding a wave of hype that’s more than a bit justified (go and find out for yourself…) Rounding off the bill are fellow BTW favourites and math rock aficionados Mongeese, set to tear up the Head of Steam for the second time in as many weeks.

Para Alta, Parisian Youth Culture, Plaza and Mongeese play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Friday 29th May.
