The volunteer-run music festival Oxjam returns to the region this month, with events in Sunderland and Newcastle, alongside a live album release which has been produced in partnership with Blast Studios.

Oxjam aims to raise money for the work Oxfam do worldwide, with local coordinators encouraged to programme diverse line-ups to highlight the region’s up and coming musical talent. Also a priority this year is achieving a 50:50 gender split in all their line-ups as part of the Keychange initiative.

Kicking off at Sunderland’s Independent on Saturday 12th, rapper Sam Summers and songwriter Leah.O join producer Limbic, synth popsters AXLS and atmospheric instrumentalist Adam Littlemore. At the Oxjam Newcastle Takeover, The Cumberland Arms hosts the skewed blues of Dark Passenger, exhilarating rockers Fires of Freya and Preacher & His Wives on Friday 25th, while on Saturday 26th at The Globe a packed line-up features indie trio Cat Ryan, rapper Jack Fox, vocalist Milly Melling, creative songwriter Sam Thomas and The Samphires. The final day will see Trillians host the Women Rock stage, with indie garage band Runt, alt. rockers Edge of Obsidian, lo-fi prog rockers The Palps, pop rock band Belle Elmore and punks Slalom D.

The Oxjam Takeover takes place at Independent, Sunderland on Saturday 12th and The Cumberland Arms, The Globe and Trillians from Friday 25th-Sunday 27th October
