All in aid of raising money for Oxfam, the opening event of this year’s Oxjam is centered around a diverse and lively collection of bands. Yellow Creatures will play their brand of strange rhythms that intertwine guitar riffs, percussion and vocal. Expect some haunting vocal layering to make occasional interjections, amidst electronic dance beats and synths. Displaying influences from the late 70s and early 80s, the dominance of keyboards in their sound is reminiscent of bands such as New Order.

Joining them on the line up is Denature. Echoing out into the world, this band creates an ethereal environment with a real contemporary twist, as they produce music of an electronic nature that really hypnotizes the listener. In contrast however, DENNIS provide us with a contemporary outlook on the brass band sound (with what can only be a regional inference to mining communities), fused with a strong modern acoustic and harmonic influence, reminiscent of the likes of Mumford and Sons, and even folk stars Bellowhead. It’s a nostalgic and upbeat sound that is sure to be belted out full force. Finally, July’s demo of the month band SoShe will be exhibiting their lilting electronic hip hop sound that will be sure to engage and gather even more avid listeners.

It really will be a true celebration of the incredible music the North East has to offer, and all with the added benefit of highlighting the extraordinary work of Oxfam!

The Oxjam Launch Party takes place at The Cluny, Newcastle on Friday 17th July.
