Running gigs across the country to raise awareness of the work Oxfam do, the Oxjam festival has become a staple of the region’s musical calendar. They’re back this month with a host of events – of particular note is the double-pronged attack of shows in Newcastle and Darlington, with a plethora of top notch local talent heading out in aid of the charity.

Kicking off in Newcastle from Wednesday 17th-Sunday 21st October, a number of venues will be taking part. At Head of Steam emotive rockers Human X headline proceedings, accompanied by dubstep trio Sapien Trace (Wednesday 17th); there’s deliciously dark sounds from The Golden Age of Nothing at Nemix (Thursday 18th); electro duo Mausoleums play The Central Bar (Friday 19th), also on the Friday night is a tasty little gig at Hidden Heights featuring Newcastle rock/house fusion band Chants, post-hardcore rockers Worry Party and ‘architectural punk’ band Novyi Lef; rapper Jack Fox heads performs at Arch 16 (Friday 19th); psych four-piece Lava Frog are a highlight at Gateshead’s Black Bull (Saturday 20th) and there’s a whole day of fun at Cobalt on Sunday 21st featuring, among others, Haythem, The Clarions, Julie Grant, Wagjammer and Komparrison. Also on Sunday 21st, The Cumberland Arms welcomes rockers Echolines, ‘Boro punks Set Your Sights and ambient soundscape musician Adam Littlemore, plus many more.

Over in Darlington on Sunday 28th October, venues including The Forum, Avalon, Voodoo Café and The Pennyweight among others will welcome vocal loop supremo Eve Conway, indie rock quintet The Voluntears, alt. rock oddballs Shrug, electro popsters Twist Helix, and more.
