Considering the humongous success of the annual ¡Vamos! festival, it was only a matter of time before organisers branched out into year-round events. Praise be then, for the inaugural Ouseburn Delta Festival, which takes place within the cool environs of the Toffee Factory from Thursday 17th until Saturday 19th September.

Taking inspiration from the multicultural phenomenon that is Mardi Gras, Ouseburn Delta aims to offer up a vibrant weekend of music, food and general merriment. Providing culinary treats on Thursday and Friday night are the ubiquitous Riley’s Fish Shack, who cook up a Creole-inspired al fresco banquet served alongside some viper jazz, dirty blues and hot vintage swing from House Of The Black Gardinia. On Saturday, daytime entertainment sees craft activities and storytelling perfect for families to engage with, and as the sun goes down a Mardi Gras parade will kick off the evening’s entertainment, with live music from ‘dark tropical’ musician and producer Gizmo Varillas, local funk supremos King Bee, country blues and swing from Jim Murray, Lee Bates & Billy Newton and jug music from The Last Gasp Spasm Band, plus multi-instrumentalist Alex de Alfaro, acoustic folk and blues act YUMA and experimental folk act Hot Bullets of Shotgun also get in on the action. If you still haven’t got your fill, evening ticket holders are invited to the brand new ¡Vamos! Social venue (more on that in a future issue!) in the city centre for yet more merriment. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
