Ever watched a film or played a video game and been in awe of its design? Well, there’s a lot of work that goes into making those sets, costumes and even tiny props which all add up to create any aesthetic.

The preliminary stages always include concept art – a step often overlooked once the final product is out. A new exhibition entitled Other Worlds: The Art of Atomhawk at Great North Museum: Hancock will bring to light a lot of the hard work behind some of the 21st Century’s most iconic media imagery, created by Gateshead-based conceptual art studio Atomhawk.

You’ve probably seen some of their designs before: Atomhawk have worked on films including Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy, and games such as Minecraft Earth, Unity and The Elder Scrolls. This new museum collection celebrates a decade of Atomhawk, showcasing original concept art which helped bring to life worlds now depicted in some of our favourite franchises.

The exceptional art and animation talents of this team have been further put to use to create conceptual designs relating to some of the Great North Museum’s most treasured artefacts, now reimagined in fantastical new ways. This kid-friendly exhibition will especially be a must-see for any aspiring artists in your family.

Other Worlds: The Art of Atomhawk is at Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle from Saturday 7th March until Sunday 2nd August
