Having spent a number of years searching for the perfect market, who would have thought it would pop up on my doorstep on Middlesbrough’s Baker Street?
The Orange Pip Market is an artisan food market which takes place on the last Saturday of every month. Priding itself on its authentic street foods, there’s genuine French crepes and bona fide Italian wood fired pizzas plus regulars The Clucking Pig and The Waiting Room providing sustenance, plus there’s live music, creative activities, workshops, demos, booze and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy too.
Even better, Orange Pip’s festive version falls on Christmas Eve and offers a mixture of foods for Christmas, a visit from the Ice Queen (instead of Father Christmas) who will be giving out gifts, plus Christmas films in Bedford Street to watch while sipping a mulled wine or cocktail. Fashion illustrator Frances Moffatt will be doing live drawings of visitors and there will be a Victorian photo booth courtesy of Dr Twist. Band-wise, enjoy good cheer from expansive songwriter Tom Joshua, melancholic meanderings from Secret Of The Whipt and the Eaglescliffe School Music Society, plus there’ll be a special performance of Christmas hits by a supergroup featuring members of noir dramatists Kingsley Chapman & The Murder, baroque popsters By Toutatis and lo-fi duo Mouses. The mind boggles.
