The Biscuit Factory Gallery has launched the prestigious Open Contemporary Young Artists’ Award exhibition, which will feature work from 27 visual artists aged 35 and under until Wednesday 30th August. After an open call for submissions attracted more than 600 entries from artists across the UK, the subsequent show will focus on an array of mediums, including photography, fine art, textiles and jewellery.

Curated by The Biscuit Factory Foundation – a charity which aims to facilitate the practice and appreciation of the visual arts in the North East – established artists were welcomed and encouraged to raise awareness of mixed contemporary art practices. The free admission exhibition of work by the shortlisted artists will run until 20th August 2017, with all work available to purchase and 10% of the profits going back into the foundation. Judging will take place during the exhibition conducted by a panel of experts.

The winner of the award will receive a hefty prize sum of £1000, the opportunity to present a solo exhibition of their work at The Biscuit Factory Gallery, along with an inclusive press package to help kick-start their career. Alongside this there will be a People’s Choice winner (as chosen by the public, of course) who will be awarded £250. The exhibition forms part of the annual cultural line-up for The Late Shows in Newcastle and Gateshead – so, if you’re looking for the next big thing on our local arts scene, be sure to get yourself down!

Open Contemporary Young Artist’s Award is at Biscuit Factory, Newcastle until Tuesday 20th August.
