“Baby music for babies.” That’s how Only Real, aka Niall Galvin, describes his music. That’s a bit harsh, I think. After all, the West Londoner takes everything that he’s heard and puts it altogether into a melting pot. Rather than getting a horrifying abomination of musical nature though, his songs combine lo-fi fuzz that fluidly interchange between genres and styles as nonchalantly as he wears his t-shirts and backwards caps.

It’s taken him twelve months to fully embed himself into the public consciousness, but finally with the release of his debut LP Jerk At The End Of The Line, Galvin has cemented himself as the potential successor to Jamie T’s gobby yet lyrically intriguing throne, with a bit of a Mac DeMarco flair thrown in for good measure. With his wacky take on the universe – portrayed in his often baffling videos that give Tune-Yards a run for their money – Galvin is something of a lovable rascal that could well take the country by storm. Catch him before he gets as big as Mr Treays.

Only Real plays at Think Tank, Newcastle on Saturday 25th April.
