First things first: any band blessed with such a magnificent moniker is clearly worthy of your time. Second of all, that said band arrives with the backing of heavy music powerhouse Southern Lord Records, home to acts including Earth, Sunn O))) and Wolves in the Throne Room, only confirms that something special awaits those heading down to the Cluny 2 on Thursday 6th April.
Hailing from Oslo, this formidable quintet make a ferocious and distinctive band of combative rock music, where splinters of d-beat, hardcore, black metal and seventies rock combine to form a cohesive and explosive whole. In refusing to stay within one narrow sub-genre or lane, Okkultokrati’s volatile work stands out from the crowd.
Last year’s Raspberry Dawn album marked a significant step forward for the band, adding shades of darkwave and hypnotic repetition to their repertoire whilst continuing to establish their own perverse connective tissue between late Black Flag and Celtic Frost, with the electronic treatments on tracks like Hidden Future adding to the pervasive menace.
As one of only four UK dates the band are undertaking as part of their latest European tour, this is a rare opportunity to catch one of underground metal’s most distinctive new acts in the flesh.
