Reliably informed

There’s a debate that has raged throughout the ages regarding when is the best time for folk music. Some would say it’s Spring as fertile lands burst forward with new life, others would say Summer and envisage barefooted troubadours playing in sunny meadows, there’s an argument that it’s during the Autumn harvest as the yearly sacrifice to our pagan God burns within the wicker man. I myself am a wintertime folk man, in particular during Yuletide when snowy forests, wood cabins and holly bushes occupy my every thought.

If, like me, you have a hankering for a festive dose of folk then make your way up the icy steps of The Cumberland Arms on Thursday 20th December and listen to the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominated duo of O’Hooley & Tidow. Enjoy an evening of mulled wine and beautifully performed original, contemporary and traditional winter songs from the Yorkshire duo’s album WinterFolk Vol 1.

With harmonies better than that of any choir or carol singers you’ll hear this Christmas, and  performances filled with enough honesty and empathy to scare off Krampus, tickets to see this much praised pair will be an early Christmas gift indeed.
