Here in the north east we’ve got some stunning environments that make the perfect habitats for a diverse range of animals to call their home. Whether it’s the plains of Northumberland, or the rocky coastlines, nature has a way of finding its way to the region and blessing us with an enviable array of wildlife. This makes the region the perfect place for wildlife photographers to show off their skill and capture stunning snaps of all creatures great and small.

This year’s North East Wildlife Photographer Award saw 1,600 photographs being entered into the prestigious competition for consideration. While the collection was no doubt of high quality, only a small selection of perfectly formed photographs were crowned winners or runners up of various categories. It’s these 18 images that will be exhibited in the Hancock’s Galleria as printed images, with a further 60 being displayed as digital entries so you can see whether you think the judges got it right.

The North East Wildlife Photographer 2015 exhibition comes to the Hancock Museum from Friday 10th July until Sunday 27th September.
