It was only at the back end of last year that Edinburgh-based band North Atlantic Oscillation made the journey across the border to Tyneside, appearing at the Star and Shadow to play their intricately constructed progressive rock and electronica. Now, just a few months later, they’re back on Tyneside to bring another dose of their unique take on alt-rock to the region.

With their latest album The Third Day, released in October last year, the band reached levels of energy and sonic movement worthy of their meteorological namesake. With a flowing thread running through the record, it was an alt-rock, semi-electronic and experimental record that was beguiling and rewarded repeated listens. Railing against the idea of the single and radio airplay, The Third Day is meant to be digested as a whole, and while there are some tracks that are immediate, gripping and even, dare we say it, catchy, the majority of the record feels like a long poetic opus meant to be taken in at length. If you missed them last time around, you’d be foolish not to take the opportunity to see them here.

North Atlantic Oscillation play at The Cluny, Newcastle on Saturday 21st March.
