If you like comedy and you’re not a regular visitor to The Stand then you really need to have a little word with yourself, for the Newcastle comedy institution is offering up a whole month of the best of Edinburgh Fringe and beyond. The two stand-outs for me are Frankie Boyle (Tuesday 25th) and his acid wit, and Stewart Francis (Tuesday 4th) with some of the best one-liners you’re ever likely to hear. Hardly surprising choices but they’re successful for a reason – they’re bloody good.

The highlight for many will be Stewart Lee (Tuesday 18th) and his ‘anti-comic’ stance, plus there’s entertainment from the ever-popular (and world record holder) Mark Watson (Sunday 23rd). But there’s plenty more on offer, from the chaotic surrealism of Tony Law (Tuesday 11th) and Jamie Kilstein (Monday 17th), who has been described as a must see act at this summer’s Fringe. You’ll know Tom Stade (Sunday 2nd) from Live At The Apollo and Mock The Week, where you’ll also have witnessed Craig Campbell’s (Monday 3rd) wonderful ‘Canadian wildman in Good Ol’ Blighty’ act. Cult favourite Simon Munnery (Tuesday 4th) is yet another quality addition to the line-up, as is Imran Yusuf (Thursday 20th), the Kenyan-born British stand-up comedian of Indian descent who has already appeared on TV’s Comedy Roadshow.

These are just the confirmed names so far with more to follow. I’d advise you to get your tickets booked as soon as you can and make the most of a truly excellent month of top notch comedy.
