Following the release of their fourteenth studio album Winter in August 2016 and now into their thirty-seventh year as a band, the legendary New Model Army play at Newcastle’s Riverside on Wednesday 5th April.
Since forming in 1980, New Model Army have built a huge and loyal fan base that, despite them never having a hit single, has enabled them to sell millions of records worldwide. Always inventive, they’ve come a long way from their formation when they looked to combine the sounds of punk and northern soul in a new and exciting way. Winter saw the band receive the best critical response of their career and Top 30 chart positions in UK and Germany; their highest since The Love of Hopeless Causes twenty years previously.
The album is a powerful and emotionally intense body of work. From the opening epic Beginning through to the closing song After Something, it builds on recent new directions taken by the band yet also has familiar echoes of the immediacy and engagement of their classic albums. With a huge body of work to choose from, fans can expect to be treated to old favourites and new creations alike.
