Celebrating and promoting the work of talented contemporary artists in the region, New Light Art is a charity dedicated to showing and promoting what the north east has to offer. The organisation has chosen the Bowes Museum to host its biennial Open Exhibition this year, which will see the work of numerous artists and printmakers from across the region displaying their work in front of a keen audience.

The biennale won’t just be putting the art on show, though. It’ll also be celebrating the hard work that the artists have put in by handing out a number of prizes to those who have produced the most significant pieces, including the prestigious Valeria Sykes Prize.

Coinciding with the exhibition, New Light are also running an innovative arts projects with a local school as well as running workshops and talks for adults interested in learning more about contemporary art within the region, or just for those interested in knowing more about how to buy or create works of art. For anyone with a passion for all things in the contemporary art world, and particularly with a local slant, it’s a series of events not to be missed.

New Light comes to the Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle from Saturday 17th October until Sunday 7th February 2016.
