Like a lot of events, the Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music was unable to go ahead. However, the organisers, a lot like the performers, are fluid innovators and so instead have developed a new project that is a direct extension of the festival and will continue presenting exciting and adventurous new music to the region/the world.

New Jazz And Improvised Music Recordings, is a record label that looks to showcase high-quality jazz and improvised music through an alternate channel by working closely with local and international musicians, graphic designers and studio engineers to create high-quality bespoke releases. Because of the location of artists and the need for social distancing the label are looking to record within a number of studios and live performance institutions, alongside Blast and Blank Studios in Ouseburn for recording and mastering to ensure the high quality audio of each release.

All releases will be good for the environment and will be manufactured in a carbon neutral pressing plant using 100% renewable energy and similarly delivered through a carbon neutral courier, finally arriving at your door in fully recyclable and biodegradable packaging envelopes.

The first three artists that are looking to be released are John Pope Quintet featuring Newcastle composer/bass player John Pope, accomplished pianist Paul Taylor and The Danish / Estonian Trio of Laura Toxvaerd, Jacob Anderskov and Maria Faust.

To help the label to get up and running NJAIMR have set up a crowdfunder, where people can either buy their copy in advance or invest in set up costs. A further stretch goal has also been created in order to look further to the future and begin discussions with other artists for successive releases. To donate, click here.
